An Open Letter to Chick-fil-A

To the staff at the new Chick-fil-A that just opened up this year within walking distance of where we live: I’ve been there. I’ve worked at Wendy’s, at every position except a managerial role, for a number of years, and while I never made employee of the month, I did a darn good job. I was always cheerful and happy, cleaned everything I was told to, even when I thought wiping the underside of a table was dumb, and read through training manuals on my breaks to advance my own position.

The Evolution of a Programmer

It’s a funny thing, looking back at the myriad of experience I’ve been blessed to have throughout my life with computers. I’ve been working with programming professionally for 11 years, which I guess technically qualifies me as a senior developer in a lot of ways, but it still sounds funny to me to realize that I’ve really been programming and tweaking software of some kind for about 24 years – and I’m only 33 years old… To think it all started when I was 8 or 9 years old and my dad brought home a Commodore 64.

Writing XHTML

Converting my site to XHTML 1.1 isn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. It’s all about closing tags, basically, and forcing you to really understand what you’re trying to accomplish. I’ll have to look around for some truly compliant XHTML authoring software though - typing it by hand is prone to mistakes. update: May 2005 obviously, the geeklog CMS system isn’t xhtml 1.1 strict compliant, so that’ll give me something to do in all that spare time i have.
