Review: IsaGenix

Alright, I’ll go out on a limb here. This isn’t meant to sound like an late-night infomercial, really. Honest. A few people noticed my ‘status’ on Facebook about losing weight with a product called IsaGenix and asking whether the stuff really works. I figured that warranted a post about it, and I wrote up an article at Facebook (since deleted when I shut down my Facebook account years ago) which is nearly identical to this one.

An Open Letter to Chick-fil-A

To the staff at the new Chick-fil-A that just opened up this year within walking distance of where we live: I’ve been there. I’ve worked at Wendy’s, at every position except a managerial role, for a number of years, and while I never made employee of the month, I did a darn good job. I was always cheerful and happy, cleaned everything I was told to, even when I thought wiping the underside of a table was dumb, and read through training manuals on my breaks to advance my own position.

Review: Nortriptyline as a Migraine Prevention

So I decided a few months ago to gradually wean myself off of Nortriptyline, the drug which started out on the market as an antidepressant, later to be used as a migraine preventative. I’ve been taking these little green and white pills for about a year and a half, and I gotta say, the number of full-force migraines that I’ve had was substantially lowered even at just a 20mg dose. The side effects where somewhat annoying, like sweet tooth cravings, and the typical antidepressant factors.

Review: Facebook

I’m hooked. I thought MySpace was fun because I found a few local friends. Then I thought Classmates.com was fun because I got to track down some people I went to high school with and some people I lived in Pine Point NWT with. Doing a mash-up between MySpace and Classmates, and you get Facebook.com, a place where you can find former classmates as well as former workmates. Facebook uses a lot of AJAX on their site which gives everything a nice, fluid feel, from a “user experience” perspective.

The first page of the full documentation includes a PayPal donation button if you’d like to say thanks for the work and effort I’ve put into this.

The stigma of being a computer guy

Shaun Boyd wrote an excellent article about the Top 10 Reasons it sucks to be a “computer guy”, and not only do I feel his article was worth sharing, but wanted to share my experiences with this as well. The link to his site is actually going through a mirrored cache, since his original site seems to be taken offline thanks to the Digg effect. My favorite bit from his article:

The Evolution of a Programmer

It’s a funny thing, looking back at the myriad of experience I’ve been blessed to have throughout my life with computers. I’ve been working with programming professionally for 11 years, which I guess technically qualifies me as a senior developer in a lot of ways, but it still sounds funny to me to realize that I’ve really been programming and tweaking software of some kind for about 24 years – and I’m only 33 years old… To think it all started when I was 8 or 9 years old and my dad brought home a Commodore 64.

A Freelancer's Worst Nightmare

“Yup, that bone right there is cracked, almost in half, and that bone has two chip fractures. We’ll have to tape that finger to the one beside it as a split for the next three weeks, and you’ll need to keep ice on it for a few days to bring down the swelling…” Doc’s recommendation was a “tapebuddy”, or impromptu splint made by taping the ring finger of my right hand (the one I broke) to the middle finger of the same hand.
