Google's Project Fi will drop one of my favorite features of Google Voice: mark a caller as a spammer and future calls get a "Number is disconnected" message.

  1. Yeah, that was a nice thing…I'm also going to miss the call screening, where callers not in your contact list are asked to say their name before the call is put through.

There are definitely some trade offs for people who are coming from Google Voice. I really hope all that stuff gets migrated over. It'd be a shame to lose that stuff permanently.

  2. +Vince Anido yeah, the "say your name" part sure ruled out a lot of robot calls.

Fi rep last night basically told me that if I wanted to keep Google Voice access that I should sign up for Fi from a different Gmail account. Otherwise, I'd lose access to GV.

+Rennie Allen Google Voice has a cool feature where you go through your log of incoming calls, and flag a caller as a spammer, and any subsequent calls you get from them automatically play the "This number is no longer in service" message.
